Tolu Balsam Substitute
This resin is produced from a number of other resins and added aromatic substances and fragrances (vanillin, cinnamic aldehyde, benzoic acid, etc.) which give it its characteristic fragrance, similar to Sumatran benzoin with its warm cinnamon notes.
Substitutes of this kind are a common way of replacing genuine Tolu Balsam (often from Colombia), which is rare and expensive.
