Chandra Devi Incense

Incense has been an integral part of Nepal since the earliest times. It is offered to deities in temples, monasteries and private homes. It enhances intellectual capacity, promotes mental peace and balances physical imbalances. Incense plays an invaluable role in Buddhist ceremonies and rites. Incense is supposed to purify places and rid people of evil. It has therefore been an indispensable part of Buddhist services since the earliest times.

During this period, Bhrikuti was married to a Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo. Bhrikuti was a Nepalese princess who introduced Buddhism to Tibet and influenced the Tibetan incense culture. Songtsen Gampo was the 33rd Tibetan king and founder of the Tibetan empire. He is traditionally credited with introducing Buddhism to Tibet, under the influence of his Nepalese queen. Subsequently, incense burning in Nepal gradually declined and the culture went into decline. Later, a Tibetan guru, the Lama, came to Nepal, brought back this incense and began to make it. It was then that our guru Chandra Devi received the Lama's blessing and learned all aspects of incense making. Since then, our Guru Chandra Devi has continued to make incense for daily offerings and to produce incense for his disciples since 1960.
