Incense from Eritrea and Sudan

Boswellia papyrifera, a granular incense or Olibanum, comes from Ethiopia but also, as here, from Sudan or Eritrea.

This resin can be burned on its own because of the quality fragrance it gives off, but it can just as easily be part of a mixture of your own making.

It is usually this Eritrean or Sudanese resin, along with Ethiopian frankincense, that is used to make fragrant orthodox incense blends (Greek incense from Mount Athos).

Note that the powdered version should be stored in a dry place as it is a very hygroscopic substance (i.e. it easily absorbs moisture from the ambient air).

Scientific name: Boswellia papyrifera
Part of plant used: resin
Country of origin: Eritrea or Sudan

Net weight: 50g
